AP Recovery was proud to help Gerdau with their Annual United Way Drive earlier this year. Supporting the United Way is one of many ways AP Recovery can realize their goal to help people because they can.
Everyone at AP Recovery believes in the importance of giving back to the communities where our clients are and are always grateful for the opportunity to help support the causes that are important to them. Pearsall Smith, Business Development Manager, was the AP Recovery contact for Gerdau.
“We are thrilled to assist with charity events that are important to our clients. When we have a chance to help others, it’s important to all of us here at APR that we take it. And who can deny that the United Way helps others?” Smith said. “What a great event and we were so glad we could participate!
Gerdau, an international steel company and client of AP Recovery, is active with the United Way. Their annual campaign routinely raises thousands of dollars of funding for their local United Way Chapters. In 2011, the employees and the corporate matching program raised over $46,000 for The United Way of Monroe County and $62,000 for the United Way of West Ellis County.
The annual campaign took place from Monday, August 24th until Friday, the 28th. The employees participate in many activities throughout the week to raise money for their respective communities, including Bingo, Jeans Weeks, Food Carts, Raffles and Silent Auctions. Gerdau then matches funds raised by employees.
APR donated two iPod shuffles to include in the silent auction event. Named the “Shiver Me Timbers” I and II to go along with the Pirate theme, the Gerdau employee team used candleholders as baskets and added iTunes gift cards to auction off with the iPods.
Victoria Q-Medina, APM and GLN/Downstream Accts Payable Supervisor in the company’s Tampa office was grateful for the support they received from their vendors, including APR.
“We had a great response from all our vendors as well as the AP team and instead of one basket we ended up presenting seven! I am very proud of everyone’s effort to make this event a great success,” she said.
Supporting Gerdau’s annual campaign is just one of the ways APR contributes to the communities their clients serve. An organization APR Admires, the United Way is dedicated to “improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good. Communities like the one where the Gerdau employees live and work raise over $5 billion each year toward this effort. As the world’s biggest privately-funded nonprofit, the United Way helps over 1,800 communities worldwide.
“I always think of the United Way first when I travel and see communities in need. I know that if I donate to them, they will find a way to make sure it gets to the people who benefit from it the most. They do the work that all of us would do if we could. But we can’t, so we trust them to do it,” Smith said.
AP Recovery knows that change starts with each of us, like the United Way says. It is our actions that make a difference in our communities. We feel it is our responsibility because we can.
